Description:
These singles were collected by Fred Fenger over many years. They were given to me by my friend Warren Sass, who was Fred's friend and who inherited them after Fred passed away in the early 90s. There's over 3,000 of them, so it's going to take a while to post them all. I'll be adding new ones regularly, so check back or subscribe to the feed to see the new stuff.

This is a special collection to me for a number of reasons. First, it's simply a ton of fun -- I love music, I love vinyl, and these particular records have been taken care of, but also listened to -- you can sense how much they've been enjoyed, and we play them all the time. Second, it was this collection that sparked the idea of building Squirl. So thanks Warren, and thanks Fred, wherever you are.

If anyone's interested, Numax makes a cool little portable, inexpensive turntable with a built-in preamp that will play 33/45/78 rpm records. The Numax PT-01, about $75. It even runs on 6 D cells in addition to AC. It's obviously not audiophile quality, but if you like the idea of picking up a cheap little turntable to listen to some old vinyl or transfer it to mp3, etc. it's a great little rig.

John, this is a great collection. You're lucky to have it, and thanks for sharing it! It would be cool to be able to listen to an mp3 of each of these records, but I don't suspect we'll be seeing that anytime soon!

The 45s pic sleeves are to die for!! (Ok... maybe faint.. :->) Pic sleeves or even record label sleeves are hard to find with the 45s. Didn't mean to drool.. :-)I'm going to ahve to do a serious photo up with my colelction... "Say vinyl!"

I think I like the Beatles 45s the most! I generally liked all the ones dated 1965.

Man, I'm really diggin' these 45 covers! I'm gonna have to dig out all my old ones and see what's still there!
Thanx for the trip down memory lane!

Hey John, sounds like an impressive collection there...love that they have the pictures on the cover sleeves...I have a ton of old 78's myself, I am still looking for a record player that will play them...most only play 33 and 1/3 and 45's :(

Wow -- The Carpenters released "Superstar" B/W "Bless the Beasts and the Children"?

Best single ever -- better than the Beatles!

yep i've got a little mixer with a built in phono pre-amp, which is the basic requirment for ripping vinyl. there's a program called 'final vinyl' by griffin (mac only, comes with the iMic) that automatically figures out the track breaks, which isn't a requirement but makes it a lot easier.

the b sides are there -- listed the old-fashioned way :-) "b/w" stands for "backed with." so the johnny mathis single "saturday sunshine" was backed with the b-side "Two Tickets and a Candy Heart."

Have you figured out how to make mp3s out of your 45s?

Can you tell us what's on the B sides?

Don't get one of these:
