Alice in Wonderland Advertisements Mar 3, 2008, 2:19pm
I have been uploading ad images to my paper ephemera collections. On many of these I don't have the information as to where they appeared or the date. If you have info to add, please make a comment on the item. I still have more to add.

Anyone want to write an article? Oct 13, 2007, 11:12am
I am now the editor of the collector section of the Knight Letter, magazine of The Lewis Carroll Society of North America. If anyone has an idea for an article, and better yet, wants to write it, please let me know.

Back to work Oct 13, 2007, 11:10am
Well after taking a prolonged break, I am back to the task of uploading images and it is a task. The reason I do it is because the final product is well worth the effort. I hope that the group will also come out of hibernation as time permits.

New Members May 26, 2007, 8:17am
We have several new members who have started uploading to their collections. We are starting to approach the community of collectors that I originally envisioned. I am heartened by the activity. If you haven't looked at these collections, you should. Some of the descriptions tell quite the tale.

We are close to 2,000 items now and growing. When all those other collectors join, we will reach the 10,000 that I predicted. Keep up the good work.

Oh, and it's okay to start a discussion here on matters of interest. Ask a question, state an opinion, or whatever.

Collector Beware Jan 25, 2007, 11:56am
I have found a hidden hazzard with placing my collection on squirl. Well, it's more a side effect of building the virtual collection of things I don't have. I get the urge to buy items, just to move them from the virtual collection to the real one. Luckily I have been spending too much money lately on things that I actually want, so I can't indulge myself in this other nonsense. I'm sure I will not succumb to this bizarre urge.

The other thing I have found in going through boxes of collectables is that I have forgotten about some of the interesting things that I do have. That part of it has been most enjoyable. The photographing of all the items is a bit of a chore, but I have started at the beginning and I will continue until I reach the ever moving end.

Another discovery - For a person who doesn't collect dolls, I have way too many dolls!

Group Search Nov 19, 2006, 1:37am
I have already requested a feature to do this and to also allow the viewer to determine the sorting sequence. As far as I can tell the search does not look in the TAG field. I've asked them to do that also. If we have the ability to search over the group and we are somewhat consistent in how we populate the tag field, each user could put all his or her items in one collection. To view toys, you would just search on toys.

I will add all categorized items to my Wonderland (first) collection and all uncategorized items to my Wonderland Miscellaneous (second)collection.

My guess is that there will be thousands of images by the time we are done.

Easy way to group/access collections? Nov 18, 2006, 6:30pm
Is there any easy way in Squirl to see a list of all the collections of all the members of this group in one list? The only way I've found to go through them is to bring up each group member's profile in turn and look at their collections (if they have any). That'll get harder if we get many more members in the group. The squirl search on "Wonderland" brings up every reference to it (profiles, quotes, etc.), not just collections. Any suggestions?

Proposed Categories Nov 8, 2006, 11:07am
Anyone who has tried to sort Alice Collectables by category knows what a difficult task it is. Whatever you do, you end up with much overlap. Here is my attempt at categorizing. Please feel free to comment.
Figurals - figurines,figures,miniatures,toby jugs,etc.
Ceramics - plates,dishes,cups,pitchers
Teapots - I thought this deserved its own category
Dolls - includes plush,puppets,marrionettes
Art - paintings,lithographs,prints
Clothing - shirts,sweaters,jackets,hats,fabric
Advertisements
Ornaments
Toys - includes board games,card games,electronic games,puzzles
Entertainment - film,tv,music,theater,dance
Jewelry - includes watches and maybe clocks
Postcards
Greeting Cards
Ephemera - paper goods,packaging,blotters,articles
Miscellaneous - stamps,soap,frames,banks,glass,enamel boxes,and everything else

Questions:
Should Disney (oh I said the D word) be separated out or included?
Where do paperdolls go?
Where do action figures go?
That's it for now.

The Alice in Wonderland Collectors Network group Nov 6, 2006, 4:13pm
My goal in forming this group is to establish the ultimate resource for Alice Collectors. I want to attract a group of collectors willing to upload images until their fingers fall off - just kidding. Personally I would like to see individuals take responsibility for a category of collectable such as dolls, china, ephemera, movie memorabilia, greeting cards, toys, and the ever popular miscellaneous. What will more likely happen is that this will become a friendly neighborhood for Alice collectors to display their collections and chat with folks that are similarly afflicted. It will also show non-Alice collectors how much Alice in Wonderland stuff there is.

In order to build a library of images of all Alice collectables it is necessary to upload images of items that I don't own. When I do this I label the item as "virtual".

If you don't want to set up a collection, but you have an image of an interesting Alice item, email it to me and I'll post it.
